WV PSC: Suspend And Deny Double-Digit Electric Rate Hikes

May 11, 2018

To Ingrid Ferrell, WV Public Service Commission Executive Secretary: Suspend and Deny Appalachian Power Company and Wheeling Power Company’s application to raise residential and commercial electric rates by more than 11% (case number 18-0646-E-42T). Residents and businesses should not be penalized for energy conservation and West Virginia’s depopulation.

Appalachian Power Company and Wheeling Power Company have applied to raise residential and commercial electric rates by more than 11%. Just in time for another record hot summer, the increases become effective June 8, 2018, unless otherwise ordered by the WV Public Service Commission. APC/WPC say they need the increase in large part because residential consumption has decreased 14% and the number of residential customers has dropped by 11,000 since 2013. Citizens should not be penalized for reducing their usage. Government agencies placing corporate profit over citizens’ well-being is one of the reasons for people leaving West Virginia to begin with.

The application is at http://www.psc.state.wv.us/scripts/WebDocket/ViewDocument.cfm?CaseActivityID=495155&NotType=%27WebDocket%27
